George RR Martin assures that the end of the books will be very different from that of Game of Thrones

It’s been three years since Game of Thrones – 59% ended that disappointing eighth season, and many fans are unforgiving of DB Weiss and David Benioff for ruining what was shaping up to be one of the greatest fantasy stories of all time. However, the writer George RR Martin has yet to finish his novel winds of winterwhich has been in development for several years.

In a recent blog post, the best-selling writer has stated that the book is taking a different path than the HBO series, which is surely good news for fans since the TV adaptation was so disappointing. This was what he said on his website, referring to winds of winter as his “winter garden” (via independent wire):

I have been working on my conservatory. Things are growing… and changing, as it happens to us gardeners. Things go wrong, things change, I come up with new ideas (thank you, muse), old ideas are unworkable, I write, I rewrite, I restructure, I smash everything and I rewrite again, I go through doors that lead nowhere and doors that they open up to wonders. However, what I have noticed more and more lately is that my gardening is taking me further and further away from the TV series. Yes, some of the things you saw on HBO in ‘Game of Thrones’ you’ll also see in ‘The Winds of Winter’ (although maybe not in the same way)… but a lot of the rest will be quite different.

Obviously the aspects in which the book and the series will differ are a mystery, but it is enough to remember that, in itself, game of Thrones Y Song of ice and fire were very different, as the showrunners of the series wanted to remove several fantasy elements with the intention of reaching a wider audience than fantasy fans. The writer continued:

Not every character who survived to the end of ‘Game of Thrones’ will survive to the end of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, and not every character who died in ‘Game of Thrones’ will die in ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. Fire.” (Some will, sure. Of course. Maybe most. But definitely not all.) (Of course, I might change my mind next week, with the next chapter I write. That’s gardening.)

At the moment it is impossible to know with complete certainty if the negative reception of the eighth season of game of Thrones influenced some creative decisions of Jorge R.R. Martinbut we can assume that so much hate he saw on social networks did not go unnoticed by him. In a recent interview with the independent declared himself surprised by the fact that fans of game of Thrones They went from love to hate so fast. These were his words:

I can’t understand how people can come to hate something they once loved. If you don’t like a series, don’t watch it! How has everything become so toxic?

Currently we can only wait for the publication of the book, but since there is no date for it yet, we will have the prequel to game of Thrones on HBO Max, House of the Dragon – 90%, which is about the Targaryen family. A month after the premiere of this series, Amazon Prime Video will publish The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – 87%, and both will compete for the attention of heroic fantasy fans.
